I look forward to hearing what you think of the Parable of the Sower. have not read it yet, but Butler is a respected author in the sci-fi/fantasy world. At some point I will need to dive in!

Great review. In answer to your question, I tend to use Amazon to search for books and I try to order them from elsewhere.

One of my book club gals shared with me today proof Butler sees the future in the form of a photo of Parable of the Sower, page 27.

To answer your question, I have a few places I browse for books - Libby, Goodreads, a few blogs, some Substack newsletters - I mostly look for recs from friends. But I am intentional about only buying physical copies of very special books or authors I collect and to shop local through bookshop.org. I rotate between 2 indie stores near me and one about an hour away that is just a precious little shop.

Hi, Cori. I just looked at that page. I read that Butler said she did not foresee any new future problems, she just looked at what was happening around her and asked: if this continues unchecked for 30 years, where will we be? In any case, it’s eerie.

But the last part on that page, about people not voting? Unfortunately, that was not the problem this time. The people actively chose this outcome. This is the most difficult part to feel calm about.

Yes. That exactly is the thing my head can’t get around.

I can’t wait to hear what you think of The Quickening. It’s funny, I raved about it to my husband months ago after I finished reading it. He picked it up out of the blue last night! It’s a great read.
