Read a book that hinges on someone pretending to be something they are not

A wannabe. A fraud. Or a journalist posing undercover.

A character who deceives often exposes painful and important truths.

In a month in which many of us are resolving to make change in our lives so that we might become truer versions of ourselves, would it be fun to read a book hinging on a dupe? Maybe it will keep us honest!

In reverse order of their publication, here are some fiction and narrative non-fiction titles that might satisfy. I’ll review some of these in my next post. What would you add to this list?
